San Rafael Commons, 83 independent apartments for seniors and persons with physical disabilities, was completed in the Fall of 1980.
It is noteworthy for the way it provides housing near shopping, transit and services in downtown San Rafael, near Montecito Shopping Center.
The density is 85 units to the acre, yet because of its good design and location, San Rafael Commons fits perfectly into its setting and is considered a very desirable place to live.
San Rafael Commons came about through the close collaboration of Tom Callinan of the Pacific Union Development Company and EAH, supported by the San Rafael Redevelopment Agency and the Marin Housing Authority.
